Stan
Firefighter. It’s not what you do, it’s
who you are.
I am a retired Emergency Fire Dispatcher for the
MEC Center, serving the eastern suburbs of
Columbus, OH. With the implementation of a
$700K federal grant, we formed a regional
dispatch center which now serves 120,000 people
with six departments, 12 stations and 35 trucks.
Our first-due area includes Port Columbus
International Airport, New Albany, Gahanna,
Pickerington, Reynoldsburg, Whitehall and other
heavily populated areas. I am an Amateur Radio
operator, emergency communicator and
musician.
I have been driving around with a red light over
my head for over 40 years. I started as a Deputy
Sheriff in Grant County, IN, and have been an
active volunteer firefighter since 1982. Being a
volunteer is a very special thing - it requires hours
of training, leaving your family anytime to
respond to a call, losing sleep, risking injury or
death, occasionally being late for work and very
little sleep. It’s extremely rewarding!
The most important thing I do -
Give Praise & Worship! I play a 42 year old bass
guitar, upright electric and acoustic bass, a 120
year old acoustic cello and electric cello, a 44 year
old banjo, an 87 year old Martin acoustic and
electric guitars, drums and a little accordion at
the Johnstown Vineyard Community Church.
Sandi and I are first and above all else dedicated
to praise and worship! After living as an atheist
for years, I discovered that God provably exists,
He loves us personally and He has put our lives
on earth for a purpose.
